Jill Vengerik has been teaching elementary school aged children, in both public and private schools, since 2005. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education and her Masters of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on social justice from Loyola University in Baltimore, MD. She has worked in Maryland, California and New Jersey as a certified teacher and as a private tutor for children ages 4 to 13. She was voted Teacher of the Year at her school in Baltimore County in 2013.

At the private tutoring studio where she worked in Southern California, she was the most requested tutor on staff to support students from all the Beach City public schools in the South Bay. It was also at this studio where Jill ran the homeschooling multi-age cohorts; She worked closely with parents and teachers to develop curriculum, projects, and learning goals based on the common core standards that met all school requirements for each individual child.

In her work in California, at the Knowing Garden Community School, a progressive, non-profit, independent school, Jill was trained in nonviolent communication and ECHO parenting. Here she was able to focus on the whole child and on the constructivist philosophy of education, as well as project-based interdisciplinary instruction. In addition to her direct work with children, Jill has trained teachers as an adjunct faculty member at Towson University, teaching graduate students the foundations of language and literacy.

Since moving back to New Jersey, Jill has continued to serve as an educator in a variety of capacities: a cooking and crafts teacher at the YMCA, a long-term substitute in the Montclair school district, and as a private tutor. During the pandemic, Jill acted as a distance learning coach for 4th, 5th and 7th graders in Los Angeles for the COHORT, a virtual learning community focused on building executive function skills and social-emotional wellness. Additionally, she also virtually supported homeschooling students on academic assignments and assisted their parents with planning, documentation and organization. Jill currently resides in Montclair, New Jersey and loves raising her spirited 7 year old daughter.

Extra tidbits: I love to exercise! I also love reading, especially about history. I like to do jigsaw puzzles and different crafts. I like to organize different events for my neighborhood like block parties and Valentines exchanges for the kids. My family and I have two cats, a dog, and a hamster! We love rescuing and taking care of animals. I was born and raised in Ridgewood, New Jersey before moving to Baltimore for college. I like to explore nature and travel to different places. Venice, Italy is my favorite place on Earth (so far).
